Bali - possibly my favourite place in the world. Here's why...

 My latest book begins in Bali. That was deliberate.

I decided I had content I could already use for creating pretty videos with quotes on, potentially have a need to go back, and also I just flipping loved Bali when we went there. 

We tried to decide if we preferred Bali or Thailand and to be honest, I can't call it. Either of them are right up there as the favourites. That will mean trouble for this website and this blog as most of the audience are here for the all-inclusive hotel advice.

Previously, I thought the type of travel one experiences in places like Bali would be too inaccessible for some people, including me. I was wrong. With careful planning, we got to see many exciting places, keep safe and well, and experience things we have never seen before. I'm dreaming about this trip, and I want to share so much more with you in the coming weeks.

No planes, only Trains this summer.

 Changing planes for trains this summer?

Yes, you aren’t mistaken; I haven't been to many hotels over the summer. This is intentional every summer. It’s too busy to create films and I love the UK in summer too. 

Yet this summer has felt very different as I’ve spent a lot of time reigniting my immense love for music, thanks to my latest book. 

My latest book, The Note I Wrote for You

Long story short - last winter I released a book and this summer I released a spin off (totally different genres!). The latest book is fiction and it’s about a band and a girl.

So, yes I’ve spent loads of time at festivals and concerts, studying what goes on and how people in a band behave in certain circumstances. 

To be clear, my characters are not modelled on anyone and are very different to pretty much every musician I’ve encountered. 

But this post isn’t about my book as such - but rather about Coldplay. I’ve been blessed to watch them properly, as well as working at Wembley and goodness, studying them and their ethos on whatever film platform I can find. 

These guys are phenomenal and if you haven’t managed to see them live yet, go. 

Coldplay at Wembley

I made friends in the crowd, the stadium, and online, in the process of researching for the book. 

Last year, you know I sadly parted ways with the academic world (many people have lost their jobs) and I took the frightening step into giving my writing the full time efforts I’ve always wanted to give it. 

My twins will testify, I’ve been working like crazy. I have loved this writing journey so far and book sales are looking promising. I would have said it’s the happiest time of my life. Although a recent blip showed me not to get too comfortable, we aren’t out of the trenches but between music, writing and “virtually” travelling around the world this summer, I’m definitely on the right path to where I would like to be. 

I’ll share some more about the artists I’ve seen in another post but I wanted to write this long one about the band who have been my Muse this summer. As I watched them perform a record breaking show at Wembley last night, it felt as if I was writing “The End”. The book is doing well, I’m happier, Coldplay are taking a small break and the research on them has shown me, 100%, I want to keep writing about this (my?) fictional band, travelling around the world with them and creating stories for them to live out.

Mercure SouthGate Hote in Exeter - why it is one of my favourites.

A Delightful Stay at the Mercure Southgate Hotel in Exeter

If you're planning a trip to Exeter and looking for a comfortable, welcoming place to stay, the Mercure Southgate Hotel is an excellent choice. I recently had the pleasure of staying there, and I can confidently say it was a delightful experience from start to finish.

A Warm Welcome and Exceptional Staff

From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel right at home. Their friendliness and professionalism were evident in every interaction, and they were always ready to assist with a smile.

Comfortable and Stylish Rooms

My room was a perfect blend of comfort and style. The bed was incredibly cosy, ensuring a great night's sleep, and the room amenities were top-notch. I especially appreciated the modern decor and the peaceful ambience.

Delicious Dining Experience

One of the highlights of my stay was the food. The hotel's restaurant offered a fantastic selection of dishes, each prepared with fresh, local ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which had a wide variety of options to suit all tastes.

Excellent Location

The hotel's location is ideal for exploring Exeter. It's within walking distance to the city's historic sites, shops, and restaurants. It made sightseeing incredibly convenient.

Leisure Facilities

The Southgate Hotel also features excellent leisure facilities, including a well-equipped gym and a relaxing spa. I found it the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

In Conclusion

I paid £209 for two people for two nights.

My stay at the Mercure Southgate Hotel in Exeter was truly enjoyable. The combination of comfortable accommodations, delicious food, and exceptional service makes it a standout choice. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area!

Seaside Escapes in Norfolk: Hemsby Beach Holiday Park & Bermuda Holiday Park Reviewed

Just recently, a group of my friends were booked on to an event up on the Norfolk coast. Why Norfolk? I didn't stop to wonder, but I did know I was a little busy to be heading there myself.

Until something happened. It's irrelevant what it was, but I made a last-minute decision to get booked on. Although there was no accommodation available, I was too late. 

Scouting around on Booking.com I found accommodation close by and I was promised I could get to the venue on seperate day tickets! What a win. 

Then, as I arrived, I realised this place puts the good old British seaside town on the map, and it needed to be filmed! The place was so cheap to stay in, and accommodated 5 people. Even better. 

If you’re dreaming of a classic British beach holiday with sandy shores, arcades, and a laid-back atmosphere, Norfolk’s coast has some brilliant gems and two of them are nestled right in Hemsby. I recently visited Hemsby Beach Holiday Park and its neighbour, Bermuda Holiday Park, to explore what each has to offer for families, couples, or anyone seeking a nostalgic seaside escape.

Hemsby Beach Holiday Park
This park sits just a short stroll from the beach and offers a real sense of holiday tradition. Think: pastel-coloured chalets, a family-friendly club house, and plenty of activities for kids. The entertainment is lively, with shows and games running most evenings during peak season. The indoor pool is a great bonus for rainy days, and there’s a good mix of accommodation options for different budgets.

What stood out to me most was the location. You can walk from your door straight onto the sand dunes and down to Hemsby Beach itself, which is perfect for early morning beach walks or fish and chips at sunset.

Personally, I opted for some lovely Gluten free cake in the coffee shop en route to the beach. It was fabulous and the coffee was great too. 

I enjoyed my solo trot that morning, although i was feeling slightly lonesome until later, when i met up with my friends. 

Bermuda Holiday Park
Just around the corner, Bermuda Holiday Park offers a quieter, more relaxed vibe. It feels slightly more residential than Hemsby Beach Holiday Park, making it ideal if you're after a peaceful break with fewer crowds. The chalets are simple but clean, and there's a calm, community feel throughout.

It’s close enough to enjoy everything Hemsby has to offer — amusements, cafés, beach shops — while giving you a more tranquil base. This could be a great choice if you’re travelling without kids or want somewhere restful after a day out exploring Norfolk’s coast.

Which One Is Right for You?

• Choose Hemsby Beach Holiday Park if you want on-site entertainment, a pool, and a classic holiday park experience right near the action.

• Choose Bermuda Holiday Park if you prefer peace, a slower pace, and a more local feel while still being near the beach.

Things to Do Nearby
Both parks are well placed for exploring the Norfolk Broads, Great Yarmouth, or simply enjoying a beachside break with long walks, arcade fun, and ice cream by the sea.

Final Thoughts

Soaking in the Magic of Southern Turkey: A Day Trip to Dalyan’s Turtle Beach, Mud Baths & More

They say the best days are the ones where you lose track of time. That’s exactly what happened to me on a day trip from Marmaris that started with a quiet promise of nature and ended with mud-splattered laughter and golden sand between my toes.

The Dalyan Turtle Beach Tour is one of those all-in-one experiences you simply can’t miss if you're visiting the Turquoise Coast. We set off early in the morning, the soft light dancing on the hills as the coach wound its way towards Köyceğiz Lake. You’ll want to bring your camera — the scenery alone makes the early start worth it.

Cruising Köyceğiz Lake

After a smooth drive, we arrived at Köyceğiz Lake and stepped aboard a traditional boat. Gliding across the tranquil waters, the chaos of Marmaris melted away. There’s something about being on a boat, surrounded by nothing but nature and the chatter of fellow travellers, that resets your soul.

The first stop? Sultaniye’s famous mud baths.

The Mud, the Myth, the Magic

At first, I hesitated. Wallowing in a thick, grey pool of sulphur-scented mud wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for a holiday glow-up. But once I was in, there was no turning back. It turns out, getting caked in mineral-rich mud and then letting it bake dry under the sun is strangely therapeutic — and wildly fun.

Everyone looked ridiculous, which somehow made it all better. Strangers became friends as we shared in the silliness. After rinsing off and soaking in the warm thermal pools, my skin felt unbelievably soft — and I couldn’t stop smiling. After I returned home, a friend mentioned how I looked like I had a facelift. I can't possibly attest to this but my skin definitely felt lovely. 

River Cruise to Dalyan and Iztuzu (Turtle) Beach

From there, we cruised past the ancient Lycian Rock Tombs carved high into the cliffs above Dalyan — hauntingly beautiful reminders of a civilization long gone. Our guide brought the history to life with just the right mix of facts and humour, switching seamlessly between English, Turkish, and Russian.

Eventually, we reached Iztuzu Beach, also known as Turtle Beach — a stunning 4.5 km stretch of protected coastline where loggerhead sea turtles come to nest. It felt surreal to walk along the soft sand knowing I was sharing it with one of the ocean’s most endangered creatures.

Lunch was included: simple, fresh, and delicious, and we enjoyed it with the breeze coming off the water.

A Perfect Escape

This 10-hour journey was more than just a tour. It was a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and experience a completely different side of Turkey. Whether you're travelling solo, with family, or as a couple, this day trip ticks all the boxes: boat rides, history, beaches, natural beauty, and yes, plenty of mud.

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. Next time, I’ll just remember to bring a change of clothes for the mud bath!
